Dear Little Doogie,
You would be amazed at just how far you have come, how much you have grown. The amazing life you have built and the hills you were able to climb.
Just know one thing, life gets better.
That feeling you had when you were figuring out who you were. It gets better.
Entering teenage years and wondering what was happening to your body and mind. You were ok.
Having no one to talk to about what you are feeling. It gets better.
That boy you thought was cute but couldn’t say anything. You could.
The girl that you noticed and didn’t have the courage to talk to. You find your person.
Putting on that masculine persona society expects. You didn’t need to.
Drinking to ease the pain of finding your place in the world. You don’t have to.
That outfit you wanted to wear but never felt safe doing so. You can.
The underwear style you always wanted to buy. You will.
Not knowing you could have attraction to more than one gender. You can.
Having that hairstyle you were to afraid to ask for. You can rock it.
Wanting to paint your nails because it makes you feel good. You can.
Scared to wear that speedo even though you want to. You will.
Wearing leggings because you love them and how they make you feel. It gets better.
Worried about wearing and loving the colour pink. You can. Thanks Cam’ron.
Afraid of stepping outside the social construct of masculinity. It gets easier.
Being authentically you in sports spaces. You will find your tribe.
Hearing casual homophobia growing. You will be strong.
Fearing for your life when a footy teammate says they go gay bashing. It was valid.
Actually coming out publicly with your sexuality. You’re brave.
Opening up to those closest to you. You will.
Starting a podcast to help tell Queer stories. It’s amazing.
Finding community in bi+ spaces. It happens.
Joining a bisexual committee to give back to community. You will.
Becoming a visible advocate for your community. You’ll see how great you are.
Watching Mardi Gras and thinking what if. You will march.
Falling in love and having them love you back as you are. That happens.
Marrying your soul mate sharing the bi+ journey together. It’s amazing.
Raising kids as a bi dad and navigating that life. You smash it.
Never giving up despite the hurdles and wanting to. You are strong.
Surviving this far and still being on this earth. I’m proud of you.
With love,
Bigger Doogie.
