Melbourne Ducks announce first import for debut AWIHL season

Melbourne Ducks have announced their first import signing in club history ahead of the 2025/26 Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League (AWIHL) season.

Hungarian international Jelena Grkovic will suit up for the Ducks who are entering the AWIHL for the first time.

Grkovic arrives with a wealth of experience across domestic and international levels, three-time Elite Women’s Hockey League (EWHL) champion, gold and bronze medals across Division 1A & 1B.

At 27-years-old Grkovic arrives in the prime of their career, a former EWHL plus/minus winner, Grkovic is sound defensively and can contribute on the offensive side.

“We are very excited to have Jelena [Grkovic] joining our team,” Ducks head coach Jeremy Muir told andrewkmacdougall.com.au

“She brings a wealth of experience that will aid in the development of our younger players.”

Furthermore, this signing for the Ducks shows a clear intent on where they see themselves entering their debut AWIHL season.

A strong squad of players with highly rated imports that will add much needed firepower, leadership and quality across the ice.

As a result, signing Grkovic is a statement from the Ducks to the rest of the AWIHL, they will be competitive and not just there to make up the numbers.

2025/26 AWIHL season try outs for the Ducks are being held across three dates, July 8, 14 and 17 at iceHQ.

Calls for international imports are also under the way, with players able to fill out an EOI form for the upcoming season.
