Ice Hockey Australia has released the 2025/26 Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League (AWIHL) season schedule, where for the first time 60 games will be played.
Running from November to March, concluding with finals and winner of the Joan McKowen Trophy.
Six teams will compete – Adelaide Rush, Brisbane Lightning, Melbourne Ice, Melbourne Ducks, Perth Inferno and Sydney Sirens.
Playing a total of 20 games each throughout the season, an increase of four per team from the previous 2024/25 campaign.

Welcome to the expansion era
Furthermore, for the first time in AWIHL history there will be a crosstown Melbourne rivalry with the inclusion of the Melbourne Ducks.
“All games [to watch], but the cross-town rivalry between Melbourne Ice Women and Ducks will be one to watch,” AWIHL Commissioner Michaela Fellowes told andrewkmacdougall.com.au
With the Ducks included into the AWIHL for their official first season, not only does it create player opportunity, but provides an expanded season.
Playing out of their own facility at IceHQ in Resevoir, Ducks will be creating their own fanbase and culture within the AWIHL.
Something that is exciting for the league as it continues to grow year on year.
“It is so exciting!” continued Fellowes.
“By having the Ducks join the league it is more eyes on our game watching both live [at the rink] and on live stream each weekend.”

More games, more action
However, expansion of the AWIHL also had the league and IHA busy working out logistics for the season.
Making sure access to rinks was available, working out best possible times for puck drop and flights home.
While the league has been working tirelessly behind the scenes, it has been a team effort incorporating all clubs.
Making sure that AWIHL fans get the best possible product for the upcoming season.
“Yes, the supporters will get their monies worth this year,” said Fellowes.
“60 games for the season is a big increase for our league, which has meant a lot of logistical challenges.
“But a huge shout out to all of the teams for working with us to get it done.”

Building season by season
Each season we see an increase in the AWIHL, whether that is on or off the ice.
2025/26 looks to be the biggest one yet for Australia’s elite women’s ice hockey competition.
Including the showcase series from 2005-2007, it has been 20 years of AWIHL action.
As a result, expansion into new markets and rinks is highlighting the increased coverage and interest in the league.
For sports entertainment you don’t get much better than ice hockey, the fast-paced action on the ice in the AWIHL will have you wanting more.
“Just go!” continued Fellowes.
“Come and see the best female ice hockey players in Australia.
“If you are visiting one of the major cities have a look and see what we have going on.
“Once you have been to a live game you will be hooked.”
