About

Andrew Macdougall is a freelance writer, LGBTIQ+ sports promoter and bisexual advocate based in Melbourne, Australia.

A love for writing didn’t come natural to Andrew, the spark came in the form of attending an ice hockey game in Melbourne.

Andrew was in attendance watching the Melbourne Mustangs play prior to their entry into the Australian Ice Hockey League, from there a writing journey began.

What started out as a blog tracking ice hockey, Andrew’s writing transformed into a media platform and eventually studying for a Diploma in Journalism.

Founding and Co-founding multiple media platforms, including On the Fly Hockey 2010-15 and Hockey Hype Australia 2023-24 (now Oz Hockey Media), Andrew has appeared for various online publications, radio, podcasts and is play-by-play commentator for the Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League.

On a personal level and since coming out as bisexual publicly in 2015, Andrew used his media platform and writing to advocate for the bisexual community.

Writing for online queer publications The Queerness and Queer-Voices, giving voice to the bi+ community on issues of biphobia and mental health.

In 2023 Andrew launched the Pride & Puck Podcast. A monthly podcast that highlights the queer ice hockey community, with guests from across the world coming on talking candidly about their journey within the sport.

November 2022 Andrew joined the Melbourne Bisexual Network (now Bi+ Pride Victoria) committee, working to improve visibility, engagement and government awareness of bi+ people.

Through this Andrew has appeared on Joy 94.9 radio talking about his bisexual experiences, giving voice to a community that is often misunderstood and highlighting inclusive ice hockey around the world.
